Spyridon Lalaounis leads the New Build Department at Bahri and is a Chartered Engineer
recognized by both the UK and EU Engineering Councils, as well as a Fellow of the Royal
Institution of Naval Architects (RINA). With more than 20 years of industry experience, he
oversees all new construction projects across the Bahri Group. Under his leadership, the team

the integration of new technologies, digital solutions, and alternative fuels—such as LNG, to
ensure Bahri’s newbuilds align with future regulatory trajectories and global emissions

environmental performance of the existing fleet through energy-efficiency technologies. His
work contributes directly to Bahri’s broader sustainability roadmap and its commitment to
building a resilient, future-ready fleet.
Spyridon holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) in Naval Architecture and Small Craft
Engineering, along with two Master of Science (MSc) degrees—in Marine Engineering and in
Business Information Technology Systems (BITS). Prior to joining Bahri in 2011 , he held senior
roles at prominent maritime organizations including Teekay Shipping Corporation (UK and
Norway) and the Anglo-Eastern Group (UK and Hong Kong), where he led major technical,
operational, and fleet-expansion projects across Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.
He is also an active member of several technical and national committees, including the Middle
East Technical Committees of ABS, BV, DNV, and Lloyd’s Register.
